Background of the Study
Palliative care is an essential aspect of healthcare for terminally ill patients, focusing on improving the quality of life by addressing physical, emotional, and psychological symptoms associated with serious illness (Haruna & Sani, 2023). For elderly patients with terminal conditions, such as cancer, heart failure, or end-stage renal disease, palliative care nursing plays a critical role in pain management, symptom relief, and providing emotional support (Ibrahim et al., 2024). In Jigawa State, where healthcare resources may be limited, the availability and effectiveness of palliative care services for terminally ill elderly patients can vary.
Palliative care nursing includes a holistic approach to managing symptoms and providing compassionate end-of-life care. However, there is limited research on how well palliative care services are implemented for elderly patients in Jigawa State, and how effective these services are in improving the quality of life for terminally ill individuals (Sani et al., 2023). This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of palliative care nursing for terminally ill elderly patients in Jigawa State, assessing patient outcomes and identifying areas for improvement in care delivery.
Statement of the Problem
Terminally ill elderly patients in Jigawa State face numerous challenges, including inadequate pain management, emotional distress, and limited access to quality end-of-life care. Although palliative care nursing is designed to address these needs, there is a lack of comprehensive evaluations of its effectiveness in this context. This study seeks to assess the quality and effectiveness of palliative care nursing for terminally ill elderly patients in Jigawa State.
Objectives of the Study

To evaluate the effectiveness of palliative care nursing in improving the quality of life for terminally ill elderly patients in Jigawa State.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on elderly patients in Jigawa State who are receiving palliative care in healthcare facilities. Limitations may include the availability of patients, challenges in measuring subjective quality of life, and resource constraints within healthcare facilities.
